A stormin' camp

Well, camp is now over and it has been a great week to look back on. We have had camps at Old Buckenham for 31 years now and each year they still seem to get better and better.

Yet again we had a great bunch of children. All of them were well behaved, attentive and really entered into all the activities. Its always really encouraging at the end of the week to hear so many children talk excitedly to their parents about all that happened, and this year was no exception.

The team of leaders was fantastic. All of them were so commited to giving the children a brilliant holiday. They worked hard all week, and showed so much enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to work well as a team. The team spirit was sky high and everyone really supported and encouraged each other.

This year our theme was 'The J Team', where we looked at Jesus and 5 of his 12 disciples. It was great to learn together about the types of people Jesus chose to be in his team, how they responded to him and what it means for each of us to also become part of His team.

For those of you who have read postings on this blog you will be fully aware of the incredible storm we had on Wednesday night. It was simply awesome (although a little scary at the time!), cutting the power to the school for 17 hours and flooding half of 2 of the girls dormitories. Yet again the team worked so hard to calm the children and ensure that they all had a dry bed to sleep in that night. Whilst it was not an event we would like repeated, we were thankful to God for his protection on all of us.

Well thats about it for 2006. We hope you have enjoyed reading our blog and will come back next year to follow the life of CUTS 2007!

BRILLIANT CUTS

Hi I am one of the 71 kids at CUTS.
This is my first year at CUTS and I was scared at first but I got used to it.
It’s my last day tomorrow and I will be really upset to leave but I will realize that I will see my family again.

Last night there was a thunderstorm and a lightning bolt hit a sub station and all the lights went out. It was ok though because the leaders helped us calm down and we started singing songs.
By For Now,Callum.R

Still alive and well!

Wow, what a night!

I'm sure some of the campers will also post a blog about the storm of last night but from a leaders point of view it was a frantic couple of hours!

A quick summary of the events as they unfolded:
  • Just about to sing the final song of our celebration and the power goes during the storm.
  • Thankfully the school has (some) emergency lighting so we can all have our supper.
  • Unbelievable lightning continues and torrential rain with strong winds starts to cause devastation.
  • After a few moments word gets round there is water in the girls dorms. We run round to them to find that, as the windows had been open (its very very hot), water had poured into 2 of the rooms.
  • With no lights we manage to pull out the beds into another room so the girls could all squash together into other rooms.
  • By 10.45 everyone was settled and the rain stopped. Phew!

This morning all was calm but that was mainly because we still had no power! After a strict 'cereal and bread only' breakfast we managed to continue as normal. The power returned about 1.45pm today so we really are now back to normal.

The team here were brilliant, they worked so hard to get things rearranged and look after the children. I am proud to be part of the team here.

The last thing to say before posting is that we are all so grateful to God for looking after us, He has been so good. Everyone is safe and really enjoying everything again.

If your child is with us this week, thanks so much for entrusting them to us. They are a brilliant group of children, they are all being well behaved and having a great time.

Hiya, it’s me again, (Gabby) We had the worst storm ever last night, it happened just after Veggie Tales (we think God has blessed us as he didn’t want the little kids to cry from missing Veggie Tales!?!) We had drinks but the weather was so bad we had a power-cut, couldn’t get back to dorms because outside was flooded!?! We went back in the Hall after drinks and sang songs till 10.15 when we were able to go back to our dorms, it was a bit strange though (because it was like a disco, but the little kids (and some older kids) were in tears, from all the lightning! When we got back to the dorms, there was only one dorm which wasn’t flooded (my dorm of course) people belongings were soaked! We had over 23 people in our dorm (a dorm with usually 14) It was so crammed!?! Everyone’s stuff was missing and we all went to bed in our clothes because there was no light. We all stunk!?! I think it was a bit strange as the theme for the day was ‘distractions’ and the storm was the biggest distraction! (I think they deliberately planned it!) The electricity has only just come on for me to write the blog. For breakfast we had cereal and bread(which we pretended was toast). And lunch a barbeque cos we still had no electricity! It’s (the storm) has been so fun! So has the whole of CUTS really!!!Gabby (Charlie’s Angels) Oh yea, do you like my random picture?
Hi, it’s Kimberley
Last night we had a very bad storm with forks of lightning, thunder, rain as hard as you have ever seen it before it looked as though some one was throwing buckets of water at the windows. It was horrific there were children crying and the dorms flooded and everything went wrong there was a power cut which has just been sorted at about 1:30 and it started at about 8:30pm yesterday so there was no toast for breakfast of a cooked breakfast either the swimming pool was cold because there was no heating in it.

The scariest thing was that the they kept the people who beds were wet in the hall and I wasn’t one of them but then when I went into the dorm none of my stuff was in there it was very wet they said so I slept in the Charlie’s angels dorm on two bed with poppy and gabby so much fun!

AND MUM MY CLARINET IS FINE!!!!!!

Got to go for now

STORM

Hello again its me!!! Hehehe
Yesterday there was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge storm! Everyone was screaming and crying! All the power went out and it was quite dark! The power came on an hour ago (1:30)
I was really brave and I actually felt like laughing (don’t ask me why I just thought it was really exciting)
Me, gabby, Amy, Kimberly and Annabel performed the intro to VEGGIE TALES on stage!!! I was Larry!!!
Gabby and I think that god deliberately planned it to happen after veggie tales so we wouldn’t be sad he he!
Me and Kim are doing a sponsored stand up and my legs are really really aching!!
Annabel is smiling all day and Amy is being silent except she’s talked about 7 times
Any way back to the slave labo… I mean good bye
From
Poppy!

HELLO!!!

It’s Gabbie here, not Gabby D, Gabbie H. It’s my first time at camp and I absolutely love every moment. Last night though, I thought was the best thing so far… …

It all started last night at the celebration. Flashes started coming from the windows, and a few people got scared, but didn’t cry. Then there were huge rumbling noises and that’s when people started crying. I didn’t though. Then all the lights went off except two emergency ones. There was a powere cut. Everyone was crying, and screaming, but then the leaders told us to go through to the dining hall for a drink and biscuit. Hardly anyone ate anything, so eventually everyone went back to the main hall and everyone started singing songs to cheer everyone up. My uncle Steve (the coolest uncle in the world), went outside and laid down on the grass to take pictures of the lightening, but then we found out the girls dorms were flooded!!!!! At first I thought we were going to have to sleep in the boys dorms who don’t even shower (or is it just they always smell???), but LUCKILY we didn’t. We found out that the Charlies-Angels dorm hadn’t been flooded, so all the girls had to squash in there.

The power came back this morning. so everything back to normal now.

I didn’t cry at all… I LOVED IT! I hope there’s another storm tonight.

Bye!! xxx

Veggie Tales (Gabby again)

The suprise event I was talking about was called 'the crystal maze' We got covered in custard!?! But it was fun. Yesterday we went on our suprise trip to Africa Alive! We saw loads of animals! But one of my favourites are the meer-cats! Look Grandad it's you! (Family joke) The leaders are being really nice and have planned a suprise event every day! WICKED! Belle, Poppy, Amy, Kim and I are going to sing the Veggie Tales theme in the evening celebration today (I'm junior Asparagus); long story, CUTS have a craze about vegetables dressed like people. Don't even ask!?! Only two days left, and our dorms are a mess! I must make the most of these last days, bye bye

Camp under the son

Hi im having a great time cuts 2006. On Saturday I had a great time meeting a new friend
That always plays the game Runescape J well. His name is Alex. When I woke up on Sunday morning I got dressed and went and had breakfast. Then I went into a thing called salt and light. Its in the hall. then I went back to the
Dorm. After free time I had some lunch (dinner ). After lunch I went to sighn up to free choice games. There is stuff like swimming , football , tennis and much more..! Then I went to my first activity I think it was …
Umm ……. Oh yes it was tennis. My second activity was computer games
As you can gess. Once the computer games lessons had finished I had to go to the hall to do the evening celibration. Then I went to the dinner hall to have a snack and a drink. When I was back at my dorm I got dressed and said a pray. Finaly I went to sleep but … I secretly stayed up late!!!

Next day

The next day was Monday. I woke up , got changed and went down to the hall to have breakfast. Then I went to salt and light. When I came back from salt and light I had I bit of free time. Then I had to go to lunch ( dinner )

And we came 3rd .

Day 2 was the best day we’ve had so far. In the afternoon we played capture the flag and some thing similar with balls. It ends with reds on 90(hurray), yellows on 40, blues 105, greens 75.

Day 3
Day 3 the pillow fights started tom & jerry raided the other dorms but just got pushed out in Wallace & gromit. After lunch dukes of hazard threaten to use their evil game plan against all the other dorms. Surprise event involves old clothes and swims wear. Sounds dodgy).

The First 2 days!

We arrived yesterday. We started off in the hall and everything was explained, then we went on the field and played Rounders as you can see in the photo. Then was Tea (Pizzas) then the evening Celebration, where we sung songs, watched puppets, watched Veggie Tales and much more. This Morning we did 3 activities they were Food for thought (Bible Class), Art and craft (above) and a choice of Swimming, Tennis or Badminton. After Lunch we had 2 Choices of activities. I chose Blogging.

Whats going on?

This year is gonna be great at CUTS, I can just tell even thought were only on our 1st full day. All the people on the 1st trip to CUTS have settled in and all the dorms are having a great time. All dorms (well mine in particular) stayed up really late last night (even after being told hundreds of times to SHUT UP!?!) We have 3 activities in the morning and 2 main ones in the afternoon. We get up to loads of stuff, including: Art and Craft, Games, Badminton, Swimming, Tennis, Scalelextrics, Cooking, Drama, Puppet making, Dance etc etc with so much to do we still have time for our fun and interesting evening celebration! So much go’s on here and this year (as we usually do) there is a charity where campers, leaders and any parents can give money. The charity this year is for africa (Johannesburg) We have more than 1 suprise event this year! These are always fun and exciting to beat the other team. (personally I think yellows will win!) The team with the most points at the end wins!?! I’m sure we’ll have a great time, and want to stay for ages. But my favourite thing about camp is hanging in the dorms cause we have so much fun, my dorm is Charlie’s Angels (Cool I know) the only let down is that we have to clean the toilets! YUK!?!
